The All Progressives Congress senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye, on Thursday, February 15, stormed the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory to collect charge sheet in respect of false information charge preferred against him.
On Sunday, February 11, the federal government, through the attorney general of the federation, announced the plan to arraign Melaye for allegedly giving false information to the police and framing the chief of staff to the Kogi state governor, Edward Onoja, Daily Trust reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that Melaye's visit to the court followed reports that he was evading attempts by a court bailiff to serve him court summon on false information charge.
After collecting the charge sheet, the lawmaker told journalists that the charges against him were frivolous, adding as a law abiding citizen, there was no reason for him to evade court summons.
Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the federal government dragged Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West senatorial district, to court and charged him with giving false information about an assassination attempt on his life to the police in April 2017.
Senator Melaye was accused of falsely incriminating the chief of staff to Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, Edward David, in the said assassination attempt.
The Office of the attorney-general of the federation filed the charges, marked CR/106/18 before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
