APC suffers big loss as ex-commissioners, others defect to PDP in Bayelsa

- Progressives Congress on Thursday, February 15, lost some of its members to the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa state

- The PDP’s national chairman Uche Secondus received the former APC members who defected to the party

- Secondus said their rights and privileges had been restored and warned state party chairmen against frustrating those willing to join the party

Former commissioners and many All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain as well as their supporters on Thursday, February 15, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa state.

The Nation reports that among them are PDP ex-state chairman Tarila Tebepah; ex-chairman of the civil service commission Monday Karibo; and ex-leader of the House of Assembly Stephen Erebo.

Others are ex-commissioner Geseye Isowo; ex-Assembly members Johnson Alalibo, Victor Awala, andA yiba Duba, among others.

It was learnt that they were received by PDP’s national chairman Uche Secondus at a rally to mark the sixth anniversary of the governor Seriake Dickson administration

Secondus said their rights and privileges had been restored and warned state party chairmen against frustrating those willing to join the party.

He said: ''You and all your supporters are welcome. All rights and privileges are hereby restored unto you. You are free to contest elections. There will not be any barrier to any of your aspirations.

''You are eligible, you are competent and you have the rights to be as if you are six or seven years old members of this party.

''No state chapter should bar anybody from coming into our party. We have opened the doors, the space is hereby open.''

He said his party would stop killings, poverty and hunger, if it returned to the Presidency in 2019.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that a former commissioner for information and strategy in Abia Anthony Agbazuere has left the PDP for the APC.

Agbazuere said that he left the PDP due to alleged impunity in the party.

The former commissioner who has held several positions since 2007 in the state, is also a onetime special adviser on public orientation to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, as well as a former chairman of Isiala Ngwa south local government area of the state.
