Southeast elders throw support behind Buhari ahead of 2019 elections

- Southeast elders will support President Buhari in 2019, according to Dr Dozie Ikedife

- The group said the decision to contest or not is however left to the president

Chairman of the forum and former president general of the apex Igbo socio -cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife, said the southeast elders have decided to support President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Ikedife said the elders will rally round and support the president if he decided to contest the coming presidential election but the decision to contest or not is left to him, Vanguard reports.

He said: “There are so many factors to be taken into consideration while talking about Buhari for the second tenure. You have to know whether the man wants to go for a second tenure before you begin to support him. If he does not indicate any interest, then what is the purpose of supporting him?

“Are you going to draft him into the position? And you should know that between now and 2019 is a long time in political calendar because a lot of things can still happen. There is this saying that man proposes, but God disposes. But left with us, if he wants to run, let him go ahead.

“We will support him but the decision has to come from him and not foisted on him by his handlers."

Legit.ng previously reported that the Emir of Maradun in Zamfara, Alhaji Garba Tambari, says some traditional rulers across the country have resolved to ensure the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 presidential election.

Tambari stated this when he fielded questions from newsmen after paying a condolence visit to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina state, on Sunday, February 18.

According to the Emir, all citizens who wish Nigeria well must support the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari if he finally decides to seek renewal of his electoral mandate in 2019.
