2019: Arewa youths back Makarfi for presidency

- The ACYD’s chairman stated that the conference will be the first one it would hold to call for Makarfi’s candidature for the presidency
Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former chairman, national caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been urged to run for the presidency in 2019, by the Arewa Concerned Youths and Development (ACYD), Daily Trust reports.
The chairman of the group, Ibrahim Suleiman, who addressed a news conference comprising representatives from the 19 northern states and the Federeal Capital Territory on Monday, February 19, stated that they had agreed unanimously, to back Makarfi for the nations’ top political office.

Legit.ng gathers that the conference was convened to highlight Makarfi’s various strides in the political field.
Suleiman stated: “We are here to officially kick-off call for the candidature of Senator Ahmed Makarfi for the top job of the nation, and this conference is the first one we are having, which I find symbolic."
Suleiman recalled that Makarfi, who was a former governor of Kaduna, introduced reforms that left the state more unified when he left office.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party said it would defeat any presidential candidate presented by the All Progressives Congress, including President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general election.
Senator Ahmed Makarfi stated that his party would wait for the APC’s presidential candidate to emerge before presenting a strategy to defeat the individual.
Speaking on the socio-political and economic challenges in this country, Makarfi said the federal government was overwhelmed.
