Kogi west youths get replacement for embattled Dino Melaye

- Toyin Akanle, a retired director of the State Security Service (SSS), will take over from Dino Melaye in 2019 following a support from a group

- The youths argue it is the turn of Yagba federal constituency to produce the next senator for the zone

- The youths say Akanle has become a priority to Kogi west

Some youths from Kogi west, the district represented by Dino Melaye at the Senate, have reportedly declared support for Toyin Akanle, a retired director of the State Security Service (SSS), as replacement for the lawmaker ahead of 2019.

Daily Trust reports that the youths, who spoke at a news conference in Lokoja, Kogi state on Tuesday, February 20, said it was the turn of Yagba federal constituency, where Akanle is from, to produce the next senator for the zone.

Speaking at the news conference, the coordinator of the group, Ogbeni Babatunde Teidi, hinted that it had been decided by the people of the area to support Akanle to give the district good representation.

“We the Kogi west youths have not just decided to come out with one voice in favour of Akanle, we have decided to harmonise our voices in the interest of the constituents of Kogi west.

“We are well convinced that Akanle is indeed a priority to us all as he holds us to be important,” he said.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Bukola Saraki, the president of the Senate, on Tuesday, February 13, said that a huge number of government officials who pretend to be helping the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari are against democracy.

He said this at the plenary of the Senate in response to issues raised by Senator Dino Melaye who aired his displeasure over claims that he has to be charged to court by the federal government for reporting to the police about an alleged attempt on his life in 2017.

Legit.ng also reported that Dino Melaye, on Thursday, February 15, stormed the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory to collect charge sheet in respect of false information charge preferred against him.
