Lagos set to mark world speech day on March 15

Lagos is set to mark World Speech Day 2018 which comes up on March 15, 2018, and will be celebrated in over 90 countries and via thousands of events in cities around the world.

Established three years, World Speech Day has grown from an idea to live public speaking events in over 90 nations across the globe.

The day is celebrated in recognition of the simple power of a speech to change human lives. Speeches can change the world. They are still the best way to encourage new ideas. From unexpected voices come remarkable ideas.

The World Speech Day Lagos will be marked in Ikeja simultaneously with all the other events around the world.

In Lagos, Nigeria the Licensee for World Speech Lagos event holding in Ikeja, social entrepreneur and founder Life Developers Network Florence Atunwa Olumodimu, decided that she would take the power of speeches to schools ahead of World Speech Day.

She used social media to ask residents of Lagos to nominate 4 schools, which would benefit from free public speaking and leadership skills training.

This created excitement and at the end of it all 4 schools emerged and their students benefited from the World Speech Day Schools Outreach Initiative: Temple School in Ikeja; Vivian Fowler Memorial College in Oregun; Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School Yaba and The Childville Senior School Ogudu.

One student each from each of these schools will be joining 28 other professionals from all works of life to deliver 7 minutes speeches each on World Speech Day March 15.

The theme for this year’s World Speech Day event in Lagos Nigeria is: “For A Better Nigeria - For A Better World”.

The offline event which will take place in Ikeja is strictly by invitation but everyone can join in by watching the live stream and following the realtime updates on social media on March 15 2018, from Time: 10am – 2pm.

In an earlier report by Legit.ng, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state banned all cash payment to civil servants in revenue collection across the state with effect from March 1, 2018.

The governor issued the ban order on Monday, February 19, after paying his Land Use Charge at the Opebi branch of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Ikeja, Lagos, in the presence of top management staff of the bank.

He said the measure is aimed at improving on service delivery to residents of the state and to block revenue leakages.
