Just in: Senator Omo-Agege backs down, apologises to Senate for condemning sequence of election

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, ‎representing Delta central senatorial district, on Wednesday, February 21, apologised to the Senate over his comments on the amendment of the Electoral Act to order the sequence of polls during general elections.

Omo-Agege, at the upper legislative chamber had allegedly criticised the recently passed electoral amendments and claiming they are to frustrate President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, the lawmaker raised a point of order at the plenary session to apologise to the upper chamber and withdrew his comment.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigeria Senate insisted on embarking on the order of election that is to be adopted in 2019, irrespective of the pressure coming from different quarters for it to have a rethink.

The senator for Abia central senatorial district Theodore Orji said the reordering of the pyramid for the poll is not aimed at anyone but to deepen democracy in the country.

The Leadership reported that Senator Orji who is the immediate past governor of Abia state, maintained that it aims to fight corruption in elections in the country.
