2019: Buhari asked for more time to decide - Okorocha

- Governor Rochas Okorocha has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari asked the APC governors to give him more time to decide if to re-contest in 2019

- The governor stated that after making his decision, Buhari would make his intention known to the country

- However, Okorocha stressed that Nigeria would be better off if the president decides to re-contest

The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC ) Governors’ Forum, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo, says President Muhammadu Buhari would soon address the nation on whether he will seek re-election in 2019, NAN reports.

Okorocha stated this when he briefed State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting between the president and the APC governors held on Thursday night, February 22, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Legit.ng gathers that he said the president would also address the caucus of the APC on the matter.

“We discussed so many issues that affect the nation, our party and Mr President’s ambition to run for 2019 elections. Anyhow, Mr President in his usual manner has requested that we give him time and that he will address the nation and the caucus of the party very soon.

“So we should be full of expectations that Mr President will make officially known to Nigerians his intentions. But we hope that his response will be in line with what the governors are thinking," he said.

According to the governor, it is the desire of the governors that the president seek re-election in view of his tremendous performances in the last two and half years.

He said: “We believe that if he continues Nigeria will be better for it."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, assured President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC of getting up to five million votes from the state in the 2019 presidential election.

Ganduje made this statement while reacting to the victory of the APC in the just concluded local council election in Kano state.

The governor who spoke during the swearing in ceremony of the 44 new local government council chairmen, and 484 councillors claimed that the APC is popular in the state.
