Police releases phone numbers of state commissioners nationwide

- The Nigeria Police Force is making efforts to be accessible to citizens

- A list of the phone numbers of all police commissioners across the country has been made public

- This is following a directive from the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris

The direct phone numbers of police commissioners across the country have been made public by the Nigeria Police Force.

The decision was taken after the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris gave a directive on the disarmament and recovery of prohibited firearms, ammunition and weapons in the possession of all suspected militias, bandits, vigilante groups, neighbourhood watch and other groups or individual(s) or bodies.

Legit.ng gathered that the operation will include cordon and search, raids, seizure from any premises, hideouts, dwelling houses or buildings or sites (completed or under construction) or any other location where illegal/prohibited firearms are kept or on reasonable suspicion are believed to be kept or being used.

Furthermore, members of the public who are currently possessing and using prohibited/illegal firearms such as pump action gun of all categories and the likes have been given 21 days from to surrender them to the commissioner of police in their state.

“The commissioners of police in charge of state commands are under strict instruction of the Inspector General of Police to enforce and carryout these directives in totality and liaise with relevant organs of government in their respective states for proper enforcement of the Firearms Act.

“They have also been directed to convey a security stakeholders meeting immediately to sensitize and educate the members of the general public, stakeholders and other interest groups throughout the states of the federation and the FCT on this operation,” a statement from police spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood affirmed.

Meanwhile, the Benue police command has debunked an online newspaper report that suggested special forces have been withdrawn from the theatre of operation in the state.

In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Sunday, February 25, the commissioner of police in the state, Fatai Owoseni, described the report as false.

He said, rather, the Inspector General of Police has continued to reinforce the command with personnel and material resources as it becomes operationally expedient.
