Just in: Suspected herdsmen reportedly attack Adamawa community, several houses burnt

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have invaded Gwamba community in Demsa local government area of Adamawa state.

The attackers reportedly stormed two villages in the community in the early hours of Tuesday, February 27, and opened fire.

Several houses are reported to have been set ablaze, while the residents fled in different directions.

Though details of the casualties are yet to be ascertained, an eyewitness who spoke to Channels Television said security forces have been drafted to the area to contain the attack.

Legit.ng previously reported that the governor of troubled Benue, Samuel Ortom, on Monday, February 26, reportedly complained about alleged herdsmen attacks and claimed there had been an influx of over one million cattle into the state after an operation launch by the military.

The Operation Ayem Akpatuma was launched by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, at Guma local government area of the state.

Governor Ortom reportedly raised the alarm on the influx of several cattle at the gravesite of 73 victims of herdsmen when he led the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Paul Enenche, and his wife, Becky Enenche to the place.
