Prominent politicians from Adamawa have joined us - SDP

- Social Democratic Party said it's expecting an influx of politicians ahead of 2019 elections

- The party's national publicity secretary claimed that five governors and twenty senators will defect to the party soon

- He added that the party is expecting members of House of Representatives and prominent politicians

The national publicity secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alfa Mohammed, said on Sunday, March 4, that the party is expecting five governors and twenty senators and several House of Representatives members to join the party soon.

The party spokesperson, who spoke in Minna, Niger state, also said he will confirm in three weeks if former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, will be joining the party or not, Punch reports.

Mohammed said: “I need two to three weeks to confirm the issue of the former vice president as it concerns our party. However, it may interest you to know that many prominent politicians from Adamawa State have joined us.”

According to him, no less than five governors have indicated interest to join the party and will be defecting soon along with 50 Civil Society Organisations who had already joined the party.

He said: “In the next two to three weeks, the mass movement into the SDP will become more pronounced especially at the national and state Houses of Assembly and I am sure that the party will soon become the majority at the National Assembly.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that the ex-information minister Jerry Gana, former education minister Tunde Adeniran and ex-Niger Delta minister Godsday Orubebe, are moving to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) which is merging with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Peoples Salvation Party (PSP) to form a formidable party ahead of 2019 general elections.

The former president Olusegun Obasanjo-inspired Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) is in talks with the SDP to work together.
