Pandemonium as youths kill policeman in Anambra

- A policeman was on Monday, March 5, killed by some youths of Umuenze, in the Orumba South local government area of Anambra state

- The state police command that confirmed the incident said some of the youths have been arrested

- The officers also said the suspects arrested will be charged to court to face the law in order to serve as a deterrent to others

The Anambra state police command on Monday, March 5, confirmed the death of a policeman in a fracas between some youths of Umuenze, in the Orumba south local government area, and the police in the area.

According to a statement by the state commissioner of police, Garba Umar, the command described the incident as unfortunate.

While assuring law-abiding residents of police protection, Umar vowed that the command would not fold its arms and allow miscreants to violate the law with impunity.

The statement read in part, ''On March 2, 2018, police officers from Zone 9, Umuahia, were on investigation activities over a petition addressed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9, on a matter bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace over land.

''However, when the team got to Umuenze, the youths attacked them with weapons, and the policemen sustained severe injuries which resulted in the death of a policeman.

''The area was reinforced by a police team to calm the situation, but the youths were still violent and some of them were arrested. No individual is above the law. We are out to protect the lives and property of citizens and ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.

''The suspects arrested will be charged to court to face the law in order to serve as a deterrent to others.''

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that The officials of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a man pretending to be mad under the Eko bridge in Lagos state.

The man, who identified himself as Oyahere Johnson, 35-year-old from Port Harcourt confessed that the gun was a toy pistol used in robbing people. He confessed to using the black toy pistol which looks like a Baretta pistol to rob passersby of their money and other belongings.

He was nabbed after the RRS officers were informed by a motor cyclist around 11pm on Sunday, March 4. The officers rushed to the scene and saw the man hiding the gun in his trousers and trying to run away. He was arrested and searched.
