APC youths ask Tinubu to include them in reconciliation committee

- The youths in the APC want to be part of the reconciliation committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari and led by Tinubu

- One of the leaders of the youths said the 2017 APC draft constitution could best be described as a “mess”

Youths under the aegis of Younger Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (YSAPC) have called on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to constitute a formidable team that will include them to help his reconciliation assignment in the ruling party.

They made the demand during a press briefing on Tuesday, March 13, in Abuja through one of the leaders, Dominic Alancha, on the outcome of their meeting.

Alancha, who said the youths welcomed the Tinubu reconciliation team, however, urged party members not to undermine the effort of the committee.

On the 2017 APC draft constitution to be ratified in the next convention, Alancha said the motive behind the “laudable development” appeared suspicious because the exercise had been shrouded in secrecy.

He said the draft constitution could best be described as a “mess” as it had “flagrantly and insolently” removed the zonal youth leaders and zonal women leaders of the party from the National Executive Committee (NEC) which the present constitution allowed.

Alancha said the party’s leaders, in the draft constitution, “made themselves members of the National Working Committee (NWC), NEC and the Advisory Council which is replacing the Board of Trustees (BoT).

"The implication of this is that the same people are to take decisions in all the organs of the party without room for checks and balances. To many of them, the party is a vehicle for winning elections; to us it is an institution of democracy and we must do everything to preserve it.”

Meanwhile, the PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, has revealed that the PDP was coming up with “generation next” programme for re-positioning youths to take over leadership in 2019. He said that the programme was designed to prepare the youth to take over political leadership in the country.

According to him, with the programme, age barrier will be removed and a 25-year old that is popular and intelligent can be voted into power as governor.

He urged the youths to mobilise young people in their communities irrespective of party affiliation to rescue the country in 2019. He also charged them to rise and defend marginal unity and democracy in the country.
