My party must learn from the tragedy that befell PDP prior to 2015 - Ex-governor Nyako warns

- Former governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa state says urgent steps must be taken to resolve the crises in the APC

- Nyako says his party must learn from the downfall of the PDP if it must exist

- The former governor says retaining the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party is detrimental

A former governor of Adamawa state and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Murtala Nyako, has reportedly warned that the party’s decision to extend the tenure of its National Executive Committees is detrimental to its future.

Nyako warned that the party was destroying itself adding that the APC has lost the moral ground to speak on due process, rule of law, enforcement of democratic norms and culture.

Premium Times reports that Nyako, spoke in Yola on Saturday, March 18 while addressing a group of APC supporters at his residence shortly after he condoled with the family of a former governor of the state, Saleh Michika, who died recently.

The former governor said the party is headed for destruction except its leaders take urgent actions to address alleged illegalities and impunity going on in the party.

According to him, the only solution to the problem is for the APC to hold a national convention.

“Even if a mechanic takes APC to court today over the unconstitutional and undemocratic tenure extension of party officials, it is very clear that the court can lock the national secretariat of the party.

“If there is no convention in APC before the general elections, the party may become a spectator instead of a participant,” he reportedly warned while emphasizing fairness, legality, justice and rule of law can sustain the APC ahead of the 2019 general elections.

He warned the party to learn from the tragedy that befell the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prior to 2015.
