DSS, other intelligence services hailed for Dapchi girls release

A report by Daily Trust indicates that work by the Department of State Services (DSS) and other intelligence services ‎were responsible for the release of the abducted Dapchi school girls.

According to the report, the release took high level of collaboration between the intelligence agencies to swiftly contact the terrorists and negotiate the release of the girls. The report was however silent on the terms of the girls release.

Recall that 110 students of Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi were on February 19, 2018 kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to reports, the insurgents returned the girls in the early hours of Wednesday, March 21, few minutes after soldiers were withdrawn from the town.

The chairman of the Dapchi schoolgirls parents association, Bashir Manzo, also confirmed the report.

His words: “My relatives and colleagues in Dapchi just informed me that the girls were brought this morning. I am heading to Dapchi now from Damaturu. When I get there we will do a head count to see if all of them have been released.”

Meanwhile, Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) co-convener, Oby Ezekwesili, has expressed joy over the return of the abducted Dapchi girls. She took to her twitter page to welcome the abducted school girls from Dapchi.

Ezekwesili, who is also a former federal minister of education, said the return of the school girls is a good news but the federal government should demand the return of the 112 Chibok girls who are still in their abductors' custody.
