- According to the new party, continuous insecurity and carnage in the country cannot be ignored

A new political party, Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), has joined the campaign led by a former president Olusegun Obasanjo against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

ANN on Tuesday, April 3, urged all Nigerians to ensure that the 2019 election was a test of competence and not sentiments or political blackmails typical of previous elections.

Vanguard reports that the political party's chairman, Board of Trustees, Adekoya Adebola, in a statement said the continuous insecurity and carnage in the country cannot be ignored by a human.

Adebola said: “The reality is how can we explain the continuous insecurity and the ravaging killer herdsmen? Even when the core of the government focus is to deliver security but since inception of this administration, the country has witnessed more of security breaches and senseless killings in virtually every part of the country with no one apprehended, or prosecuted."

He further inquired: "How can we explain the failure in the fight against corruption even when the reason Nigerians voted for this government was essentially because of the stealing that was going on in government?

"And right now, the same is the order of the day in the nose of the current government. Monies are swallowed by monkeys and snakes; questionable list of looters. The list can go on and on.”

The ANN chairman said reviewing the failures of the present administration, the assertion of the past president was not out of scope.

He also enjoined all Nigerians to come out en masse in 2019 to, "vote out an incompetent All Progressives Congress (APC) and Buhari government."

Adebola said that the Alliance for New Nigeria stands to offer Nigeria competent hands, persons who have been able to prove their mettle in their chosen fields and those with an impeccable integrity and character.

He advised Nigerians to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) ready while promising that the ANN which comprises men and women who are true patriots represents a new Nigeria that will foster growth, development and peace.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Ayo Adebanjo, a leader of the Afenifere group, said that Obasanjo has no moral right to accuse anyone of being corrupt.

Adebanjo said the former president had not disputed that he had only N20,000 in his bank account as at when he returned from the prison in 1999 and that he was rescued from bankruptcy by Atiku Abubakar, and a businessman, Oyewole Fasawe.

The Yoruba leader also said that Obasanjo should not feature in public life again if Nigeria was a decent country as it was rather amazing that the former president continues to assume undue prominence in spite of his known character.
