Gunmen kill village head, 5 others in attack on Kaduna community

- Eight people suffer injuries following attack on Kaduna community

- A survivor who identified himself as Henry says bandits stormed the community on motorcycles in large numbers

- He gave the names of the dead as Sule Sarari, the 60 year old village head, ‘Lado, Yunusa, Jonah, Tela and one other person

Five persons, including the community leader of Sarari village, were on Thursday afternoon, April 5, killed after bandits stormed their village located near Kuriga town in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state.

Premium Times reports that eight people suffered injuries following the attack which occurred around 2pm.

A survivor who identified himself as Henry told the newspaper that bandits stormed the community on motorcycles in large numbers and started going from house to house shooting people.

“I don’t know where they came from we were just sitting down when we started hearing gun shots from all directions.

“They came on motorcycles in large number. They go house to house shooting people. Our village head and five other people were killed. I was shot on the leg while trying to escape,”Henry said.

He gave the names of the dead as Sule Sarari, the 60 year old village head, ‘Lado, Yunusa, Jonah, Tela and one other person.

Henry‘s account was also backed by a nurse, Silas Ayuba, in charge of a primary health centre in Oduwa town where the injured victims were receiving treatment.

“Yes we have six bodies right now at the clinic; all males. Eight people were injured and we are doing our best to stabilise their condition,” the nurse said.

Meanwhile, troops deployed in Exercise Ayem Akpatuma in Taraba state in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police on Saturday, March 31 arrested some criminal elements operating in Mayo Ndaga area of the state.

Items recovered from one of the suspects Amos Titus- 35, include sheets of zinc, bed and locally made pistol.

Other suspects Palat Jafainal- 20 and Kingsley Benson- 25 were also arrested and items recovered from them include generating set, sewing machine as well as sheets of zinc.

One Rapheal Abel- 26 and Yusuf Abdulkareem- 20 were also arrested and sheets of zinc were recovered from them, a statement by Nigerian Army spokesman, Brigadier-General Texas Chukwu said.
