- United are plotting to strengthen their squad ahead of the coming season after a disappointing 2017-18 season

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has reportedly informed his club he wants to join Manchester United at the end of this season.

The 28-year-old joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2014 from Bundesliga side Bayern Munich in a £22.50 million deal.

Meanwhile, with United planning to beef up their squad for the coming league season, they have made the 2014 World Cup winning player one of their major signing to replace outgoing Michael Carrick at the end of this season.

This will be the second time the Red Devils will be bidding for the German player, having failed with their first offer in 2014 when he joined the Galacticos.

However, Spanish news outlet Don Balon believes the former Bayer Leverkusen is ready to seek a fresh challenge in the Premier League under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho.

Carrick is set to retire, while Moaroune Fellaini is tipped to quit the Old Trafford outfit this summer – reasons the Portuguese born manager has made Kroos his major target.

Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera is also said to be unhappy at his struggle for playing time at the club and could leave this summer.

United’s record signing, Paul Pogba, has seen his relationship with his manager gone down the drain, hence, might be shown the exit door.

Kroos according to Don Balon says he is aware of the Red Devils’ offer and is eager to play for the Premier League side next season, and Real are expected to put up a tough fight to keep their player beyond this season.

Both teams have a couple of players they would love to sign from their clubs, as Los Blancos have refused to sell to United either Gareth Bale or Raphael Varane in recent years.

While United have refused to let their top goalkeeper David De Gea leave for the Santiago Bernabeu since the summer of 2015.

Kroos, after joining Madrid in 2014, has won two Champions League titles, three FIFA Club World Cup trophies among few other domestic titles at the club. He also won a number of trophies while at Bayern Munich.
