Rep Ted Lieu of the United States has hit at President Donald Trump after he put blame on former president, Barack Obama, following reports of a chemical attack in Syria.

Lieu took to Twitter on Sunday, April 8, to write: "Dear @realDonaldTrump: Remember when you launched cruise missiles at a largely empty field in Syria? That unconstitutional act didn't do very much. Remember when you said last week that US is leaving Syria in six months? So what is your plan? You're the president now. Remember?"

Lieu's comments come after dozens of people reportedly died and hundreds were reported injured on Saturday, April 7, in an alleged chemical attack in Syria.

According to a statement by State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, the U.S. officials were closely following the reports regarding another alleged chemical weapons attack, that targeted a hospital in Douma, Syria, The Hill reports.

Trump, who referred to Syrian president, Bashar Assad, as Animal Assad tweeted: "If President Obama had crossed his stated Red Line In The Sand, the Syrian disaster would have ended long ago! Animal Assad would have been history!"

In 2017, Obama had said that he believed his decision to negotiate rather than respond with force to Syria’s use of chemical weapons required some of the greatest “political courage” of his presidency.

That was despite his saying in 2012 that if Assad used chemical weapons it would cross “a red line”. The U.S. Syria was accused by the United Nations of using chemical weapons on its own people in 2013.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that in retaliation to a chemical weapons attack that killed scores of civilians, the United States attacked Syria with dozens of cruise missile strikes at a government-controlled airbase.

The Pentagon said that 59 Tomahawk missiles hit Shayrat airfield in Homs province, from where they believed the Syrian jets that dropped the chemicals on a rebel-held town in Idlib province had taken off.
