Edgal Imohimi, the Lagos state commissioner of police, has stated that the activities of the Badoo cult group has been degraded, The Nation reports.
He made the comment at the inaugural edition of the Lagos state Security Summit, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, on Monday, April 9.
NAIJ.com gathers that Imohimi said crime rate had gone down in the state, due to the government’s assistance of security forces with donations and funding. He stated that the government’s assistance helped in halting the activities of cult groups like Badoo, as he noted that the group had not carried out any attacks from January till date.
The police boss stated: “In comparison, when I became commissioner of police last September, I introduced policing plan powered by the strategy and philosophy of community policing and community safety partnership.
“Policing as we all know is more about strategy and technology, but there are other factors that come to play, such as logistics and all that. But when there is a clear-cut strategy backed with the right technology, then the war against crime will be won.
“Based on the partnership with the security outfits within our communities, we have brought the activities of Badoo cult to an end and discovered suspected shrines in Ikorodu and its environs used for ritual killings and other crimes. These shrines have been demolished."
Imohimi added that the command had leveraged on goodwill from the government and citizens to keep Lagos safe. He pointed out that 15 town hall meetings had been organised for him to meet members of communities; and in response to those meetings, a complaint call centre was set up, where people could petition on issues of misconduct by officers.
According to Imohimi, “this has helped to rekindle the confidence of the public in the police.”
Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that five shrines in Ikorodu allegedly belonging to the dreaded cult group, Badoo, were destroyed by the Lagos state police command.
As part of efforts to rid the Ikorodu communities of the cult group, Edgar Imohimi, the state commissioner of police, led a team of police officers and bulldozers to the Agbowa area of the community.
