Breaking: Former Katsina governor docked for alleged N11.5bn, pleads not guilty

A former governor of Katsina state, Ibrahim Shema, was on Tuesday, April 10, arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He pleaded not guilty to 24-count charge filed against him at the court.

Daily Trust reports that Shema was arraigned over an alleged financial misappropriation of local government funds amounting to N11.5 billion.

At the time of this report, the case was stood down for 15 minutes and was being observed by the court before proceedings would continue.

The report said a counsel in the case, Earnest Obunadike, said after the stand-down, the prosecuting team shall start presenting witnesses.

Legit.ng reported in 2016 that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission interrogated the aides of former governor Shema.

Some ex-heads of government agencies and some serving government officials were among those being quizzed by the EFCC men.

Thirty four former local government chairmen who were elected under the Peoples Democratic Party regime in the state are also being interrogated by the operatives.

Legit.ng also reported that three houses allegedly belonging to Ibrahim Shehu Shema were sealed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
