Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi has revealed he would eat pounded yam before playing a match and it will not affect his performance.

The Arsenal winger said this in an exchange of questions and answers with Nigerian-born NFL star, Jay Ajayi, on the club's official YouTube channel .

The 22-year-old was asked by Ajayi that if he could eat anything before a match that would not affect his performance on the field.

"It would probably be a pound of yam," Iwobi answered.

The NFL star quickly admitted that eating a heavy meal like pound yam will probably get him to sleep moments later.

Iwobi scored the decisive goal against Zambia that ensured Super Eagles qualification to the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Ajayi also asked how he felt when he scored the goal that took Nigeria to her sixth World Cup.

Iwobi said: "When i scored i saw my parents in the crowd and I almost cried. It was a nice feeling."

Iwobi also admitted he does not know all the words in the Nigerian national anthem.

"I know it, but I don't know it well but when the camera comes on me I know what to say," he added.

The pacy winger provided an assist for Danny Welbeck to score the Gunners winning goal against Southampton in their last Premier League match at the Emirates.

The Arsenal academy product also scored a brace in Nigeria famous 4-2 victory over Argentina in Russia last year.

As an established player in the Nigerian team the talented youngster will surely make Gernot Rohr's final 23-man squad to the World Cup in the summer.
