The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that only President Muhammadu Buhari has signified interest in running for office in 2019.

Daily Trust reports that Malam Bolaji Abdullahi who is the publicity secretary of the party spoke on Wednesday, April 11.

The party spokesperson said the declaration has generated reaction from members of the National Executive Committee.

He, however, emphasized that the door was not shut to other member of the party as the constitution allows other members interested to make their intention known. He said the party would finally decide who the flagbearer would be in 2019.

Abdullahi said it would be prejudicial to say Buhari was the only candidate of the party but that it was fundamental for him to be given the opportunity to consolidate on the work he has done.

He said they would not repeat what the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did in 2015 when they printed only one nomination form for Goodluck Jonathan.

The president said he wanted to get the declaration away with so that his administration could focus on more important things like agriculture and security.
