Aruna Quadri settled for a silver medal after agonizingly losing out to Singapore’s Nina Gao in the final of the men’s table tennis singles event.
Nigeria’s sole competitor on the last day of the Commonwealth Games lost 4-2 (7-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-3, 9-11, 5-11) to the 2007 men’s singles winner in a close contest.
The second ranked African had earlier defeated India’s Sharath Achanta in four straight sets to get to the final, with the Indian clinching the Bronze medal after defeating Brit, Samuel Walker by four sets to one.
Quadri's silver medal brings Nigeria’s medal haul at the Games to 24, with Team Nigeria sitting 9th on the table with 9 GOLD, 9 Silver and 6 Bronze.
Nigeria was the overall second-best African team behind South Africa who were ranked sixth on the table with 13 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals respectively.
Kenya placed third best in Africa and were 14th on the medals table with four gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.
