The executive governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson, has stated that it is only the Almighty God who can determine the state’s next governor in 2020, Punch reports.
The development was made public in a statement by the governor’s special adviser on media relations, Fidelis Soriwei. He said Dickson made the comment at the St. Andrews Anglican (Ijaw) Church, Apapa, Lagos, on Sunday, April 15.
NAIJ.com gathers that the governor stated that God will raise a leader who would build on the legacy of development by his administration and pilot the state’s affairs with a heart for the people.
He stated that after his tenure expires in 2020, such a leader would be supported by all the state’s indigenes and Ijaw people in general.
Dickson added that all the state’s revenues must be utilized judiciously to carry out projects which would be of benefit to Bayelsans. He pointed out that his administration had provided the best public schools and health institutions in the country for the state, in order to change its developmental landscape.
He stated: “The Niger Delta is a difficult terrain; people have said it is a muddy place but that is where God chose to put the oil. We are battling to build hospitals in that terrain; we are battling to build very good public schools, health facilities which are the best among public facilities in this country.
“We are building roads and constructing bridges to Ekeremor and other parts of the state. You must join us to enlighten our people because every money going into Bayelsa must be utilised for the general good of the state.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Bayelsa state government disclosed that it would start the construction of a New Yenagoa City between March and April, 2018.
The state governor, Seriake Dickson, made this known at an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Glory Land Chapel at the Government House in Yenagoa to celebrate the sixth anniversary of his administration.
He said that the foundation laying ceremony of the New Yenagoa City would attract the leadership of the country and other eminent dignitaries.
