- Vidal has been ruled out of Champions League clash with Real Madrid
- The Chilean midfielder is set to undergo a minor knee surgery
- Vidal was red carded in the fixture against Los Blancos last season
Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal is set to miss Champions League clash with Real Madrid next week as he has to undergo a minor knee operation.
The 30-year-old was returning from injury, but broke down in training, and Jupp Heynckes has confirmed the Chilean will go under the knife.
The 72-year-old coach spoke ahead of the DFB Pokal semi-final match against Bayer Leverkusen, he explained: "Arturo had a trip without any contact from anyone else.
"He has a loose body in the knee joint. He needs a small procedure and will be out for the time being.
"He's a fighter. I'm confident for his recovery."
The news of the player comes as a blow for the Bavarians especially at the time they are still in contention for a treble this season.
Bayern are already Bundesliga champions and are just a match away from the German Cup final and face the prospect of a fourth domestic double in six seasons
But the Champions League is the trophy is the most important on their agenda and losing Vidal for the double-header against Real Madrid would be a huge blow.
In last season's quarter final clash against Los Blancos, the former Juventus man scored a goal in the first leg and was sent off in the return leg.
After the semi-final draws in Sion, Switzerland, Vidal tweeted his thirst for revenge against the defending champions.
