The Federal Government of Nigeria closely works with Youth and Women Employment Component of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Program (SURE-P). This collaboration provides great benefits and apprenticeship opportunities for unemployed Nigerians. It’s surely needed to expose the skills of young Nigerians to the labour market.
The Project Implementation Unit is one of the most important components of SURE-P. The Unit is located in the Federal Ministry of Finance. It has the responsibility of daily activity connected with most Youth Employment Projects.
One of the most significant social changes required for Nigeria today is Youth empowerment. Youth unemployment is still reported to be quite high all over Nigeria. The approximate number of unemployment today is approximately 35%.
Graduate Internship scheme seeks the opportunity for eligible graduates to become interns in reputable private and public firms. It enhances the building of manpower in the country and can only ensure the national transformation agenda 2020.
According to the rules of the Graduate Internship Scheme in Nigeria, about 50,000 graduates all over Nigerian would be selected to be empowered in the short/medium/long term. It’s ensured that the Youth are attached as apprentices to the various organizations where their skills can be tested.

Therefore, the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme provides the financial part of the Graduate Internship Scheme in accordance with the policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

If you want to register for the Graduate Internship Scheme 2018, you have to meet the following requirements:
- Be a holder of a degree which is equivalent to BSc, BA, HND, MA and so on.
- Be a citizen of Nigeria.
- Be 18-40 years’ old.
- Have a recent passport photo to be ready to upload.
- Complete online registration form on gis-tool.wyesurep.gov.ng.
- Provide all the original copies of the above-mentioned documents on demand.
Internship positions for graduates:
- The positions must be legitimate and safe for graduates to undertake
- They should be suitable for Graduate
- Meet the standards of safety regulations
- Be able to provide employment for graduates for at least 12 months
- Be able to provide a mentoring plan for graduates.
Application and payment of interns
- A graduate should be able to work at the chosen location and business;
- A future intern should be willing to undertake a full 12 months’ employment;
- He/she should be able to comply with the safety requirements of the organization;
- The payment for the graduate should be undertaken by Public Works, Youth and Women Employment;
- Neither graduate nor the owner of the business or company should pay any additional fees for job;
- A graduate should provide only the true data about his origin, family, and educational background;
- A graduate has to be perfectly fit for the required job. It also includes medical and health conditions of the candidate.
The Graduate Internship Scheme 2018 provides great opportunities for Nigerian Youth. The beginning of the programme is usually announced by the representatives of the Federal Government.
