Catalan press on Saturday April 21 carried reports that Valverde would be sacked if Barca were beaten by Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final. However despite the 5-0 rout, doubts remain for Valverde.

AS in their report said that the coach has sensed a growing distance between himself and several board members. Indeed, the relationship between the coach and the executive has been described as "cold".

Senior Barca players, who were visibly angry after their defeat to Roma in the Champions League confronted Valverde over his team selection and tactics but have since met with him to assure him he has the full support of the locker room.

However, the board is another matter and Valverde has told friends he fears even winning the Double may not save his job this summer.
