The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to a recent statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari, blaming the opposition for the recent killings in the country.
The PDP says President Buhari's administration is “completely confused, incompetent and lacks the capacity to secure our nation.” This was contained in a statement sent to journalists by the national publicity secretary of the party, Kola Ologbodiyan.
The party urged the president to wake up to his responsibility instead of resorting to blame game, even as the killings continue across the country.
Part of the statement read: “It is totally atrocious that instead of waking up to its responsibility or accepting failure and seeking help, President Muhammadu Buhari and his officials have been resorting to blame game in the face of daily bloodletting and mass killings in our country.
“Only recently, President Buhari ran to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby to blame deserters from late Muammah Gaddafi’s Libya as being responsible for the killings.
“In the last three years, the Buhari presidency had placed blames on past administration, demographic changes, climate change, conflict over cattle routes, decreased farmland space against increased number of cattle and human population. Today, it is the opposition that is responsible for their failure to secure the people.
“It is unfortunate that instead of defining and facing the challenges confronting our nation, the presidency is busy chasing straws thereby failing to nip in the bud a dangerous dimension in our national history."
The party said President Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) must be held responsible for the escalation of the killings across the country in the last three years, describing it as “a direct consequence of their incompetence, harsh policies, nepotic proclivities and general failure in governance.”
The PDP further said: “President Buhari has failed after winning power on the basis of false promises but more heartrending is this attempt by the presidency to play politics with human lives.”

Meanwhile, a civil society group, Centre for Public Accountability, has described the claims by the PDP that the Independent National Electoral Commission is creating additional 30,000 polling units in a bid to rig the 2019 elections as not only unfortunate but mischievous.
In a statement sent to NAIJ.com by its national coordinator, Abdul Kazeem, the group described the PDP's claims as irresponsible, with a tendency of unnecessarily heating up the polity.
Kazeem urged the PDP to take seriously its responsibility of mobilising its members to go out and get their Permanent Voters Cards rather than trying to cast aspersions on the credibility of the electoral umpire.
