Trouble in Ondo APC over elective congresses

- Some people in the APC have been accused by Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice of plotting not to hold elective congresses

- The senator said these people are plotting to retain the current executive members at all levels

- The party has, however, denied this and accused the senator of cooking up lies

Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice, representing Ondo north senatorial district, has accused some members of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), of plotting not to hold elective congresses and instead retain old executives.

Boroffice also claimed that some officials of the party had plans to hoard party nomination form from legitimate party members, who desired to seek elective positions

In a statement signed by Boroffice's media aide, Kayode Fakuyi, the senator warned that crises may rise in the party if credible elective congresses are not organised.

He said: “The agenda of the undemocratic forces is to disenfranchise thousands of All Progressives Congress members across Ondo state. The undemocratic plot to prevent members from voting is not in the best interest of our party. It is also not in line with democratic practices and due process.

“As a matter of law, it is unknown to extant provisions of APC Constitution. It will not happen in Ondo State, God willing. Therefore, the undemocratic forces in our party must be guided by the provisions of the constitution."

However, the APC state chapter, through Steve Otaloro, its director of media and publicity, said there was no such plot to disenfranchise members of the party.

Otaloro said: “All members of the APC know that nomination forms are not yet out and those who are coming to conduct the election have not arrived the state yet.

“So, we don’t know why Senator Boroffice is cooking up this falsehood. This electoral body would be responsible for the conduct of the election.

“We currently don’t know who are members of this electoral committee, who would be sent down by the National Secretariat in Abuja. So, it is not the state secretariat that would select and conduct the election.”
