- Jurgen Klopp tried not to allow Philippe Coutinho to join Barcelona
- But the Brazil international forced a move to the Spanish giants
- Klopp wanted him to lead Liverpool into a new era of success
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp reportedly tried to stop Brazil international Philippe Coutinho from joining Barcelona telling him he could lead the Reds into a new era of success.
But Philippe Coutinho was desperate to leave the Premier League and forced his move to Barcelona in January 2018.
But since his departure, Liverpool have not had any cause to think about missing him as they have been superb in the Premier League and also in the Champions League.
The form of Mohamed Salah can also testify that the loss of Coutinho has not been felt at the club with Liverpool on the brink of a Champions League final.
And according to the report by Joe and made available by Daily Star, Klopp held talks with Coutinho in January 2017 telling the midfield maestro he could be the key man in a new successful era for Liverpool.
But on the other hand, it does not appear that Philippe Coutinho is regretting his move to Barcelona considering the fact that he has won the Copa del Rey title with the club.
He is also on the verge of winning the Spanish La Liga title with Barcelona this season as they remain unbeaten in the topflight.
Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Barcelona on Saturday night, April 21, produced astonishing performance by beating Sevilla 5-0 to win the 2017/18 Copa del Rey title at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
The match was a total condemnation for Sevilla as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta scored for Barcelona who are also on the verge of winning the Spanish La Liga title.
Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez scored the first goal for Barcelona in the 14th minute after a wonderful assist from Philippe Coutinho.
