- President Muhammadu Buhari's decision to re-contest in 2019 is still a trending topic in Nigeria
- The president has gotten the support of a youth congress in his quest to spend another four years in office
- The group has also volunteered to purchase the nomination form of the president for him
Some Nigerian youths under the Democratic Youth Congress (DYC) have concluded plans to purchase nomination form for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid.
The national chairman of DYC, Kassim Muhammed Kassim, who is also a member of the Nasarawa state House of Assembly, said the group with about four million registered members, had unanimously agreed to mobilise and contribute a thousand naira each to sponsor and buy the form for the president.
According to him, those criticising the president’s decision to re-contest in 2019 should rather channel their grievances towards the youths for forcing the president to seek re-election.
He said the group had earlier approached the court to compel the president to seek re-election because of the giant strides of his administration.
Kassim said it was in view of the president’s resolve to seek re-election that the group further approached the court to discontinue the suit because it had already been overtaken by events.
Similarly, a youth movement under the aegis of Jagaban Movement, has thrown its weight behind the declaration of President Buhari to seek re-election in 2019.
In a statement sent to NAIJ.com by its national coordinator, Bashir Adegboyega, the group said the president's re-election bid tilted towards the path of a safer tomorrow and massive employment of human and non-human resources in Nigeria.
According to Adegboyega, the second term bid of the president has become necessary considering his unwavering commitment to anti-graft war and massive infrastructure programmes with the attendants employment generation.
