- Delta APC has rejected the south south chairman's nomination of Adams Oshiomhole as party's next national chairman
- The Delta state chapter of APC is the fifth state out of six south-south states to kick against Oshiomhole
- Other states include Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River
The Delta state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked against the endorsement of former governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, by the chairmen of the south south states, as chairmanship candidate of the party.
Four other south-south states have earlier kicked against the endorsement of Comrade Oshiomhole by the south-south chairman. The states are: Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River states.
Tribune reported that the representatives of the states had stormed out of the south south zonal caucus meeting held at the Edo state Government House on Monday, April 23, to protest alleged plans by the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, and the zonal vice chairman of the party, Hilliard Eta, to adopt Oshiomhole as the south south zone consensus candidate for the party’s national chairman.

The four states chairmen said they were ambushed with Oshiomhole’s adoption agenda at the meeting and insisted that the APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, should be given a right of first refusal to seek re-election for the position.
The chairman of APC in Delta state, Chief O’tega Emerhor, while also commenting about the development, expressed shock that the national vice chairman south south could conceive such a stance.
Emerhor stated emphatically that the leaders and stakeholders of APC had, at no time, deliberated on adopting Comrade Oshomole as their candidate. He added that Chief Oyegun, is a worthy son of the zone who has performed creditably and who deserves a first right of refusal.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that a chieftain of the APC in Edo state, Major General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd.), has faulted the endorsement of ex-governor Adams Oshiomhole by the south south caucus of the party for the national chairmanship position.
According to him, Oshiomhole is not an alternative to John Odigie-Oyegun, the incumbent chairman.
While speaking on the division in the south-south chapter of the APC over the choice of Odigie-Oyegun and Oshiomhole for the APC chairmanship position, Airhiavbere said the former remains the best candidate, given how he had been able to keep the ruling party together despite all the challenges faced after winning the 2015 presidential election.
