The spokesman for Sokoto state governor Imam Imam, is dead. He passed on after a brief illness at an Abuja hospital in the early hours of Friday, April 27.
Daily Nigerian reported that Imam (41 years of age) was hospitalised five days ago at Nizamieye Turkish hospital in Abuja due to complications of pneumonia.
Imam, who studied journalism at Kaduna Polytechnic, started his career at New Nigerian newspaper. He later joined This Day, where he rose to the position of group politics editor.
He was the special adviser on media to Aminu Tambuwal when he was the speaker of the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015. He also served as the special adviser on media to Tambuwal as the Sokoto state governor until his death.
The special assistant to the presidency on new media, Bashir Ahmad, expressed his shock at the news on his Twitter page.
Imam is survived by two wives and four children. Family sources revealed that the funeral prayer for the deceased will be held at 2pm at Annur Mosque, Abuja.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that Sokoto state governor Tambuwal, had appointed Malam Imam Imam, as his special adviser on media and public affairs.
Tambuwal in his statement urged the appointee to endear himself to his new assignment by making positive contributions to the information flow in the state.
