- David De Gea voted Manchester United's best player of the season
- The Spanish goalkeeper wins the award for the fourth straight time
- The 27-year-old has been linked with Real Madrid in recent months
Manchester United David De Gea has been named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for a record-breaking fourth time.
The Spanish international overtook Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo who he was previously tied on three victories with.
The Busby-named award, voted for by supporters of the club, was given to De Gea for his continued heroics between the sticks for United during the season.
He also took home the Players' Player of the Year which was voted by his teammates for his outstanding saves for the club.
De Gea made point-blank saves in big matches including Liverpool and Sevilla to help his side to crucial league points and keep them in European ties.
The 27-year-old saw off competition from Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young.
Speaking on stage after receiving the Sir Matt Busby award, he said: “It is difficult to say with words what Manchester United means for me, and for anyone it is amazing to play for this club, for the fans, for the history, it is amazing to play for this club.
“It was a bit hard at the beginning, but I believe in myself, I train hard.
“I want to say thanks for everyone, I didn’t expect to win just one and now I have four. Thanks for everything.”
On his Players' Player award, he added: "I think it is special to receive this award from my team-mates, I love all of them.
"We are fighting for second place and we are in the [FA Cup] final, but we are Manchester United so it is not enough. We have to improve for next season."
The Spanish number one has been constantly linked with Real Madrid but the Red Devils are insisting he is not for sale.
United defeated Arsenal by 2-1 at Old Trafford in Arsene Wenger's last match at the Theatre of Dreams.
Jose Mourinho will go into battle against Chelsea in the FA Cup at Wembley as they remain on course to clinch second position in the Premier League.
