- Buratai stated that the army has well established channels for addressing complaints
Officers and men of the Nigerian Army have been warned by the chief of army staff, Lieutenant Tukur Buratai, against using social media to air their grievances or discussing operational strategies which could be injurious to the country's national security.
Buratai issued the warning while speaking during an Officers Office Management and Documents Security Workshop at the command officers mess in Abuja on Wednesday, May 2, Daily Trust reports.
NAIJ.com notes that the army boss was represented by the chief of policy and plans, Major General Rasheed Yusuf. He stated that the army has well established channels to address complaints, adding that resorting to social media to air grievances is highly prohibited.
According to Buratai, in order to check the excesses of some officers, a directorate has already been initiated to focus solely on the management of the social media in the service.
He said: “The social media has brought out additional challenges to information security which are being used by misguided personnel contrary to our service rules.
“The Nigerian Army has an extant policy on the use of social media which prohibits among others, the use of social media to discuss or disclose service matters.
“It is indeed unfortunate and unprofessional for service personnel to resort to social media to disclose classified information or express grievances when the army has well established channels for addressing complaints."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the army boss Buratai issued a stern warning to all officers and soldiers in the Nigerian Army to steer clear of politics.
Buratai, represented by the commander, Infantry Corps, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, gave the warning on Saturday, January 13, at the graduation ceremony of officers who underwent a regimentation and leadership training of the 64 RC and SSC 44 course at the 20 Infantry Battalion Serti, Taraba.
