Expectations are high among Nigerians as the Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that it will on make public the findings from its investigations into allegations of underage voting in Kano on Friday, May 4.
The Punch reports that the spokesperson for the chairman of INEC, Rotimi Oyekanmi, said this in a text message on Thursday night.
“You are all cordially invited to a press conference on the findings of the committee constituted to investigate the alleged Kano Underage Voting scheduled on Friday (May 4),” he said.
The report noted that INEC had in February, 2018, instituted a committee to investigate underage voting in the local government election in Kano state in which the All Progressives Congress won the 44 local governments.
The report of the committee was submitted on March 28, but reportedly kept secret for several weeks.
This forced the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accuse INEC of colluding with the APC-led federal government in alleged plans to rig the 2019 elections ahead of the polls.

The committee's report stated that the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) didn't use the national voters register made available to it by INEC to accredit voters during the local government election in the state held in February.

Another report had earlier quoted the Independent National Electoral Commission as saying the committee set up to investigate the Kano under age voters saga has concluded its facts finding mission and is in the process of writing its report.
