World Cup set to be broadcast in pidgin for Nigeria and Ghana viewers

- Supersport have announced that they will be running the 2018 World Cup commentaries in pidgin for Nigeria and Ghana viewers

- They made this known in Lagos on Thursday, while they also slashed the prices of their products

- This year's World Cup kicks off on June 14, while Nigeria begin their campaign against Croatia

MultiChoice Nigeria have concluded plans to broadcast the 2018 FIFA World Cup in pidgin for their viewers in Nigeria and Ghana.

The organization made this known on Thursday, May 3, saying all the 64 World Cup matches will be on DStv and GOtv, with viewers getting the best of expert commentary and analyses.

They equally disclosed that they have reduced the prices of some of their products, with the DStv HD decoder, which includes a dish kit plus one-month subscription on the Compact bouquet available at N8,500, a 14 per cent reduction from the previous price of N9,900.

While GOtv decoder, which comes with the antenna and one-month subscription on GOtv Max will be available for only N5,900.

The announcements were made in Lagos yesterday at the launch of “Connect with Greatness”, the company’s World Cup campaign.

Speaking at the event, General Manager, Marketing and Sales for MultiChoice Nigeria Mr. Martin Mabutho, said: “The FIFA World Cup is football’s biggest event, featuring the best players and national teams all fighting for one ultimate prize.

We are proud to say that we have been broadcasting the football tournaments since 2006 and this edition won’t be any different as we will be showing all 64 matches of the World Cup LIVE and in HD on DStv and GOtv.”

He stated that subscribers in Nigeria and Ghana would enjoy special commentaries in pidgin, adding that they will have access to the World Cup on six dedicated SuperSport channels broadcasting all 64 games on all DStv packages.

GOtv subscribers will also enjoy all 64 World Cup games on GOtv Max and GOtv Plus packages, while GOtv Value customers can view a total of 56 World Cup games.

The 2018 World Cup will kick off on June 14 with Nigeria grouped alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D.

This will be the Super Eagles sixth appearance as they will be hoping to break the quarterfinal jinx this time in Russia.
