Fame always comes with a prize. Some celebrities have lost friends and family members due to the demanding nature of becoming famous. While some try their hardest to still be the same, circumstances often change them.
Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha is one of the biggest names in the industry, with over N1 million followers on Instagram, it's clear that she is loved by many. However, most people believe that the beautiful actress is not as friendly when she meets people she is not familiar with.
In a recent interview, Akpotha revealed that she's a very shy person and keeps away from people she doesn't know rather than being a snob as perceived by most people. The actress also talked about her reservation against getting intoxicated, she admitted she acts silly when she has foreign substance in her system and chooses to comport herself wherever she goes, hence her no drinking or smoking conviction.
Speaking to Sunday scoop about being shy and reserved, she said: “I am aware that people think I am a snob, but I am actually a shy person. My job demands that I should abandon who I am. It used to be even worse for me because I went to a single-s3x school; so, relating to guys was difficult for me. However, I am adjusting now because of acting. When you meet me newly, the first impression you get is that I am cold. But I am only trying to protect myself from people I don’t know."
Further more, the Lara and the beat actress also opened up about being allergic to smoking. Although, she can enjoy a glass of drink, occasionally, Chioma would rather stay way completely, especially because it commands a certain behaviour which she describes as improper in public.
Talking on how her family background has also affected most of her behaviour, she said: "The way my mother raised us, especially as her first daughter, there was no way I would have lived a wayward life. My late mother would have been a solider if she didn’t have a job. In Igboland, they pay so much attention to the first daughter because she must be an example to the younger ones."
"Also, I am allergic to smoke and many other things. I act stupidly whenever I am high, which is not good for someone like me in public because I like to conduct myself well. I had friends who questioned why I did not smoke or drink but if you know who you are, you wouldn’t succumb to peer pressure. However, I am not saying the fact that I don’t smoke or drink makes me an extraordinary being.”
