- The minister of communications, Adebayo Shittu, questions achievements recorded within PDP’s 16-year reign
- He says Nigeria should be proud that they have a president who does not steal money or get involved in corruption
- Muhammadu Buhari gives reasons why he is seeking re-election in 2019
The minister of communications, Adebayo Shittu, has insisted that the achievements recorded by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government within three years of rule had surpassed that recorded by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in its 16-year reign.
Leadership reports that Shittu on Monday, May 7, said Nigeria should be proud that they have a president who do not for once steal money or get involved in corruption.
He reportedly made the statement at the formal inauguration of the 774 local governments area (LGA) coordinators of the I Stand With Buhari Movement.
“In the past you couldn’t beat your chest and make the same pledge but today we can say it without fear. I want to challenge the PDP that what Buhari has achieved in terms of practical achievements for Nigeria, the PDP government did not achieve it in 16 years of their been in government," Shittu said.
Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity confirmed this development in a statement in Abuja.
He said that the president made the declaration at a closed-door meeting of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
The presidential aide quoted President Buhari as saying that he was responding to the clamour by Nigerians to re-contest in 2019, adding that he wanted to give the NEC, the honour of notifying them first.
President Buhari, who had earlier presented a speech on the report submitted by the APC National Executive Technical Committee, specifically thanked members of the committee for carrying out the assignment on time.
