Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny will be out of action for his club and country for at least six months according to Mirror.

The France international ruptured his Achilles tendon earlier this month in the Gunners 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in Spain in the second leg of their Europa League semifinal clash.

However, the result meant that their aim of winning their first European club competition would have to wait till another time as they were crashed out of the competition with 2-1 aggregate loss to the La Liga side.

He has after then gone through surgery – which means that he will miss this year’s FIFA World Cup staging in Russia this summer as well as the opening months of the Premier League season.

The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that his countryman is gutted about the injury that will keep him out for almost half of the new season after missing the global championship this summer.

Wenger also added that the earliest Koscielny will return to action will be in December this year in a bid to recover well enough.

"Koscielny is of course devastated because he needs surgery. That means he will be out for six months," said Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

"You will not see him at the beginning of December at best."

Koscielny started the game in Spain last week, but was stretched out of the pitch as early as the 12th minute after tripping on his leg without anyone around him.

The Frenchman became a Gunner in 2010 after joining the Emirates Stadium outfit from Lorient €12.5 million deal.

Since then, he has featured for the north London side 238 times and has scored 19 goals in the process, and has won two FA Cups and two Community Shields in his stay at the club.

He made his senior debut for his national team in 2011 and has scored one goal in his 51 caps for the 1998 World Cup winners.
