- The Nigerian military is gradually winning the war against Boko Haram terrorists
- The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is playing a major role in the battle against the insurgents
- Scores of terrorists have been neutralised by a NAF lpha Jet aircraft
A NAF Alpha Jet aircraft on Monday, May 7, neutralized scores of Boko Haram terrorists while providing close air support to ground troops.
NAIJ.com gathered that the air strike by the NAF Alpha Jet aircraft followed calls from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army that troops conducting clearance operations at Koleram had come in contact with the insurgents.
A statement from the NAF's director of public relations and information, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, narrated what happened:
“The crew of a Nigerian Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft established contact with the ground troops and guided the Alpha Jet aircraft crew to the major source of fire from the terrorists, which was seen coming from a particular settlement.
“Consequently, the NAF Alpha Jet aircraft engaged the target with rockets and cannons thus neutralising the terrorists and destroying their weapons.”
The statement assured that the Air Task Force will continue to conduct missions, on request, in support of the efforts of our troops in the counterinsurgency operations in the northeast.
The NAF recently unveiled two Mi-35M helicopter gunships that the federal government had since ordered from Russia.
The induction ceremony was conducted as part of the activities of the 54th anniversary of the NAF which was held in Kaduna state.
The new helicopters are meant to boost the Nigerian military internal security operations in the country.
