- Liverpool make surprise move for Khedira should Can go the opposite direction
- The German midfielder has played at the highest level with Real and Juventus
- The 31-year-old was a member of the German team that won the 2014 World Cup
Liverpool could sign Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira during the negotiations for Emre Can in the summer.
The defending Serie A champions have a long-held interest in Can whose contract with the Reds will expire at the end of the season.
According to The Sun, the 24-year-old is likely to leave on a free transfer, and the Merseyside club could bring in Khedira.
The former Real Madrid man joined Juventus since 2015 but as negotiations progressed with Can, Liverpool were made aware of Khedira's availability.
The 31-year-old won the 2014 World Cup, triumphed in La Liga with Real, and helped Juve to the Scudetto twice.
Though Jurgen Klopp has been looking to strengthen his central-midfield area with younger legs but he might end up signing the experienced German midfielder.
Khedira has previously spoken of a desire to play in the Premier League before he retires.
He told Sport Bild: "I'm not thinking about my future right now, but one day I would like to win the Premier League.
"I only have one year left on my contract here and will be 32 next year."
The Reds have already secured Naby Keita from RB Leipzig for next season's campaign but will no doubt strengthen further with Khedira if Can depart to Italy.
Liverpool were defeated by 1-0 in the Premier League by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge which has reduced the gap between their London rivals to three points.
But a win on the last day to Brighton would secure their top-four finish and ensure their Champions League qualification for next season.
Klopp's men will be looking to make history when they face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May, 26, in Kiev.
Both teams qualified at the expense of Roma and Bayern Munich respectively as the club from the Merseyside will be looking to repeat the 1-0 win against Los Blancos in the 1981 finals.
