- Manchester United, are ready to table £62m for Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane
- Mourinho is a fan of Varane style of play
- And is believed to be the one pushing to land the young French defender
Premier League giant, Manchester United, are ready to table £62m for Raphael Varane - and it is believed that the Real Madrid star is open to a move.
United boss, Jose Mourinho, is expected to complete overhaul his back line in the next few weeks.
Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind are all expected to depart Old Trafford.
Spanish news outlet Don Balon claims Manchester United are ready to spend big on the Frenchman and it is suggested he might be tempted by a move to Old Trafford.
Varane enjoyed a favourable spell under Mourinho during the Portuguese gaffer's stay at Spain and and the 25-year-old holds his former boss in high regard.
Former Arsenal forward Paul Mariner reckons the Old Trafford faithful would be delighted to see the talented defender in a red shirt.
But he is not convinced Real will sanction an exit given Ramos’ advancing years.
Mariner said: “If I’m a Man United fan, I would welcome him with open arms,”
“I think he’s absolutely terrific. I still don’t think he has reached the pinnacle of his powers.
“I can’t see Real Madrid letting a player like this go to maybe the second highest-rated team in the world.
“For me, you’ve got to keep your best players. How many great defenders are there around?”
NAIJ.com previously reported that Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has confirmed that Manchester United have contacted him ahead of a possible move to Old Trafford at the end of this season.
The 24-year-old French defender joined Los Blancos from Lens in 2011 under coach Jose Mourinho, and he’s set to reunite with his former coach should the deal pull through this summer.
According to Sportskeeda, the France international admits that no official contact has been made by the Red Devils.
