Chelsea manager Conte fears losing FA Cup title after poor display against Newcastle

- Chelsea lost their last Premier League match of the season after losing 3-0 to Newcastle United at the St James Park

- The defeat means the Blues will play Europa League next season after finishing 5th on the table

- Conte has now warned his players to step up their game or lose the FA Cup title to Manchester United this weekend at the Wembley Stadium

Antonio Conte believes Chelsea’s chances of winning this year’s FA Cup later this weekend is slim.

The Blues were condemned to a 3-0 defeat at the St James Park on Sunday, May 13 by Newcastle United in their last Premier League game of the season.

Two goals from Ayoze Perez and one from Dwight Gayle ensured Rafael Benitez’s men wrapped up their 2017-18 season on a winning note.

Having failed to win their last game of the season, with Liverpool demolishing Brighton & Hove Albion, Conte’s men will now play in the Europa League next term.

Conte insisted that his side cannot overcome Manchester United in the final of their FA Cup clash at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 19, if they repeat their shambolic display in their last EPL game.

The Blues manager said: “We must change because if we think we can play a game like this in the final of the FA Cup, we don’t have a chance.

“But we have six days to change our approach, our desire, our will to fight. After a game like this, I am the first person to answer for this bad game.

“There was a great frustration because in our minds, we had the will to finish the season in the best possible way and instead from the start, we didn’t show the right will.

“Newcastle out-played us and they deserved to win. But I’m the first person to answer for this.

The Italian born manager has just one more year on his contract with the Blues but could leave in the summer with the club destined for the Europa League.

Asked what damage that will do to last season’s title winners he replied: “I think I’m the last person to speak about this. You can ask the club what is the damage to finish out of the Champions League."

“I have worked with my players this season and I think it’s not right to say something about this because there are other people to judge our season and judge the problem of finishing out of the Champions League.

“I like to play to win and this is my first season that I didn’t win the title, three with Juventus, one with Chelsea. When I start a season, I have always won.

“There is a great disappointment for me because I like to play to win and to finish fifth for me is a big disappointment.

When asked if the FA Cup would be his last game with Chelsea, he said: “Do you think so? You have the news?

“No, I don’t think so. For this season, for sure. Now we have to play the last game in the FA Cup and then, as you know very well because I am repeating always the same thing, I am committed to this club.”

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Chelsea were humiliated in Premier League last day fixture - losing 3-0 to Newcastle United.

The result means the Blues will settle down for Europa League football next season after finishing fifth on the log.

meanwhile, they have a chance to win a title this month if they can beat Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium.
