House of Reps aspirant visits fire victims in Taraba state

- Taraba has witnessed another tragedy amidst the insecurity in the state

- Scores of people were burnt to ashes as a result of some tankers explosion in Zing local government of the state

- A House of Representatives aspirant, Sulaiman Bakari, have provided succor for the victims

Succor for victims of an accident which occurred in Zing local government of Taraba state has been provided by a House of Representatives aspirant in the state, Sulaiman Bakari.

The incident which happened on Wednesday, April, 2, resulted in scores of people burnt to ashes as a result of some tankers explosion.

NAIJ.com gathered that no fewer than 10 people were killed after a tanker burst into flames after crashing into a trailer on a market day in Zing town, a popular area in Taraba state.

About 20 others were said to have sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident that occurred on the faithful day.

Bakari, popularly known as “SB” paid a condolence visit to the traditional ruler of the town; the “Kpanti Zing” Alhaji Sulaiman Ibrahim Sambo, the families of the bereaved and the victims of the ugly fire incident who lost their loved ones with properties worth millions of naira burnt into ashes.

Bakari who also visited the scene of the accident to assess the level of damage told journalists that the tanker, which was loaded with petrol, was heading for Yola, Adamawa state, when it crashed into the trailer.

His words: “The tanker driver was at top speed when he lost control. The tanker’s brakes must have failed. It rammed into a moving trailer and immediately burst into flames.”

He also said he met with a man who narrated that he was at the scene riding on a motorcycle ahead of the tanker telling people to leave the road because the tanker had lost its brakes.

Bakari who works closely with Bukola Saraki, promised to draw the attention of the Senate president to the unfortunate incident to intervene on the state of the road to avert future re-occurrence.

“I suggest something should be done about it (the road), either dualize the road or create some alternative routes for all the heavy duty trucks and tankers and block them from passing through the city centers, especially residential and market areas," he said.

The Taraba state police command has since confirmed the incident. It said on Thursday, May 3, that 10 people died in the crash.

According to the state police public relations officer, ASP David Missal: “We recovered eight dead bodies after the accident, but later in the evening, we discovered a burnt corpse inside one of the vehicles. I can also confirm to you that many houses and shops were burnt because the accident happened in a densely populated area; more so, it was on a market day.”

Meanwhile, the police on Wednesday, May 9, confirmed the death of nine persons in early morning attacks on Tutuwa community in Ussa local government area of the state.

ASP Misal told journalists that a yet-to-be identified armed militia must have carried out the deadly attack.

Misal said that Alhaji Aliyu Tafida, the deputy commissioner of police of the command, and heads of other security agencies in the state had already moved in to assess the situation.
