- The PDP has appealed to former governor, Olusegun Mimiko, not to leave the party
- It said it is working towards reclaiming power in 2019
- The party, however, said it will move on without him if he leaves
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed to former governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko, not to desert the party as report of his consultation to leave the party for the Labour Party emerges.
New Telegraph reports that Clement Faboyede who is the chairman of the party in Ondo state made this appeal when he received the report of the Peoples Democratic Party Support Group (PSG).
He said it would be in the best interest of Mimiko not to leave the party.
It was reported that Mimiko and his supporters have concluded arrangement to dump the party over what he called irreconcilable differences with some leaders of the party including Governors Ayo Fayose and Nyesome Wike of Ekiti and Rivers states.
Faboyede noted that the party was working with other political parties to form an alliance in order to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
He said: “Mimiko is our leader until he officially leaves the party. We are appealing to that he should stay and provide leadership for our teeming aspirants. Mimiko said he is consulting and he has not finished consultation. We hope he will rescind the decision to leave the party. But if he decides to leave the party, we will move on without him.
“PDP is the only alternative to send APC away. People are now the opposition party to the APC because they have earlier sold their votes for pot of porridge. They are now regretting. Let them continue to do the job of opposition for us before we mount the campaign box.”
