Armed bandits kidnap 87 passengers along Kaduna highway

- Some passengers travelling between north and southern parts of the country are reportedly abducted by bandits

- An official of NURTW says over 15 vehicles including long trucks, buses and commercial cars were intercepted by the armed kidnappers

- Army neutralises 10 armed bandits in Adamawa, recovers 18 motocycles, weapons

Eighty seven passengers travelling along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highways have been reportedly kidnapped by armed bandits operating in the area.

Vanguard reports that the bandits selected their victims from their look and dressing and herded them into the bush.

The kidnappings were confirmed by the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the area, which cautioned its members from plying the route pending deployment of troop and other security agencies.

Most of the kidnapped victims were said to be passengers travelling between north and southern parts of the country when they were reportedly abducted.

An official of NURTW said: Over 15 vehicles including long trucks, buses and commercial cars were intercepted by the armed bandits who selected their victims from their look and dressing and herded them into the bush.

“We learn that the kidnappers have started communicating and negotiating with the families of their victims, demanding for ransoms in millions of Naira.

“A man and a woman were killed today while four additional passengers were also kidnapped.

“As an official of NURTW we have warned our members to henceforth stop plying the route until there is adequate security in the area."

Meanwhile, the troops conducting clearance operation in Numan general area of Adamawa state has neutralised 10 armed bandits following an encounter.

Legit.ng gathered that this was made known in statement signed by the director army public relations, Brigadier General, Texas Chukwu.

He said that the ten bandits were neutralised during an operation which lasted for one hour.
