NAIJ.com gathered that the governor also advised APC members not to lock their doors for new entrants into the party, adding that the party still needs more people to join its fold.

He said: “I ask you to come out and start mobilising for membership of the party again and again and again because once you are a political party, what you need are the people; you don’t lock your door, you don’t lock you window, you allow people to join. So please allow more people to join our party for our victory in 2019 by the Grace of God."

Tambuwal also called on elected party officials to carry their members along, even as he tasked them to ensure fairness and equity.

The Sokoto governor also solicited support for elected officials towards the progress of the party.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that the former president Olusegun Obasanjo was allegedly planning to bring top chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the SDP, otherwise known as the Third Force movement.

Among those reportedly approached by Obasanjo are Senate president Bukola Saraki; speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, and Governors Samuel Ortom and Aminu Tambuwal of Benue and Sokoto states respectively.

While Saraki and Dogara left the PDP for APC in 2013, Tambuwal who was a former speaker of the House of Representatives joined the ruling party in October 2014.
