A 15-year-old boy, Odunayo Bamigboye, on Wednesday, appeared before an Okitipupa magistrates’ court, Ondo state for alleged theft of a cell phone valued at N7,500.
Bamigboye, whose address was not made available, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 4 at Number 7, Kunbi street, Idepe, Okitipupa, NAN reports.
NAIJ.com notes that Orogbemi said the accused entered into the house of the complainant, Inuesokan Ebisinke to steal an Itel C2 cell phone.
The offences contravened sections 390 (9) and 412 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In his ruling, the magistrate, Banji Ayeomoni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N15,000 and one surety in like sum.
Ayeomoni said the surety must show evidence of one year tax payment to the Ondo state government. The case was adjourned until May 24 for mention.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Rapid Response Squad police detectives arrested one Wale David for stealing the phone of another church member in a popular camp in Ogun state.
A statement on the RSS Facebook page stated that the accused was not just a church member. He was also engaged by the church to help clean up its premises after a special church service.
The statement read: “Thief in the House of God. The House of God is one of the unlikely places you expect to find a thief but today, it is this unlikely place that thieves visit to steal from people who have come to seek God’s divine favour."
